About the Event
Face masks make everything better! When our skin feels and looks great, we instantly feel better. So why not add more masking into your day if it can give you a boost? If you’re like us, you have a variety of masks throughout your bathroom, but like last season’s clothing purchase, you just want something new! BitterGrace DC and Blue Lemon Beauty are teaming up to bring you a couple hours of self-care, and some recipes to make yourself a face mask at home!
About Carly
Extremely sensitive to artificial fragrance when she became pregnant, Carly had to toss out her most coveted skincare and body products. It was then that she started to pay closer attention to what was in the products she used on herself and her son. Carly started blending her own products in 2014 to know exactly what the ingredients were, and to enjoy how the product smelled. While already formulating, she entered a three-year program to become a Clinical Herbalist. In the program, she learned how to extract herbal phytochemicals and has since then carried that skill when formulating the products. All Blue Lemon Beauty products are made using whole plants and their extracts. And since they take sustainability seriously, all ingredients are sourced organically, or wildcrafted, and in a way to preserve the species.
About the Event
During the event we will be talking skincare, masking and even discussing common mistakes that happen during a face mask. For example, the under eyes are often neglected! We recommend having an undereye serum on while masking, to add a little boost to the eyes and keeping that thin, sensitive skin safe. Don't have a product for the under eyes yet? We have the Blue Lemon Beauty Revived Eye Serum in store at Bitter Grace. Come by before the event and pick yours up. While your here, grab a facial serum for after the mask, as well as the Rose Mist to keep your skin, and mask, hydrated for maximum efficacy!"
We have two mask recipes that we are going to go through. Feel free to pick the one that pertains to your skin issues, or maybe you only have those ingredients readily available in your kitchen. Bonus, if you want to make both masks! Though I would recommend to make the second one later in the week.
Have some acne scars and/or sun spots? Turmeric has been shown (with consistent use for 4 weeks), to reduce discoloration and even out skintone. It can also help to reduce redness and the appearance of fine lines. Lemon juice is full of vitamin C and offers antioxidants that fights free radicals in the skin. And honey keeps the skin moisturized, clean and bright!
For our second mask recipe, we have yogurt to moisturize the skin, soothe inflammation and fight acne. With the addition of cocoa powder, we are working this mask to soften, clean and detoxify the skin. It also will have a lovely natural scent if essential oils are not available to you!
Brightening/Hyperpigmentation
- Turmeric Powder
- Lemon Juice (we don’t recommend applying lemon directly to the skin, be sure to mix into the mask)
- Honey
- Water to make paste
- Couple drops of essential oil if on hand – Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, etc. – or let the natural lemon surround your senses!
Glow/Calming
- Yogurt
- Cocoa Powder
- Honey
- Lemon Juice
- Lavender Essential Oil preferred, but can be any, or enjoy the natural cocoa scent!
- We can’t wait to see you!
